Social Media - its use and impact on mental health and wellbeing among young people
This paper presents a literature review on the topic of links between social media use and mental health and wellbeing of young people.
It provides an update on the state of knowledge about social media usage and shares insights into its potential for both harm and good. It specifically explores the current limitations of the literature, social media’s impact on sleep, and its impact on young people with experience of self-harm or suicidality.
This was intended to assist and inform health practitioners, parents/carers, and others in supporting
young people’s mental health and wellbeing, as well as young people themselves.
