Supporting People at risk of suicide

This learning byte from NHS Education is aimed at workers who, in the context of their role, are likely to have direct or substantial contact with people who may be at risk of suicide. It also highlights where they may play a role in supporting people’s health and wellbeing.

The resource covers the following topics:-

  • understanding distress, crisis and related risk or protective factors
  • recognising when someone may be experiencing distress or crisis
  • providing a compassionate and helpful response
  • supporting self-help and problem-solving
  • knowing how and when to access more urgent support for someone
